into san francisco, near candlestick park,. the second happened later that afternoon when san jose police shot and killed another man after starting a chase. the third involves union city police who shot and killed a suspect after an attempted traffic stop turned into a footchase. the fourth, as we just mentioned, was the shooting with hayward police earlier this morning. >> vallejo police are investigating what appears to be a murder-suicide. officers were on their way to an apartment for a welfare check this morning, when neighbors reportedly heard gunshots. a male and female were both found with bullet wounds. it's unclear what their relationship was. police are looking into that and the circumstances surrounding their deaths. >> the annual escape from alcatraz triathlon turned deadly today. authorities say a 46-year- old man suffered "a massive cardiac event" as he was getting into the water to start the race. emergency crews noticed him right away. pulled him from the water. and began administering c-p-r but were unable to save him. this is believed to be the first death at the gruel

midnight when daly city police followed a stolen vehicle into san francisco. that's when sfpd stepped in. 1 when they jumped out of the car they were surrounded, immediately. however, they continued to run from officers. when they caught up with them the suspect turned around and had a gun. for the safety of not only the officers but also for the surrounded officers. >> the driver of the vehicle died, the passenger is in custody tonight. identities of the two men have not yet been released. >> a mechanical problem on a plane leads to an emergency landing at san francisco international airport. officials say a united airlines flight was flying in from vancouver canada when problems started with the hydraulics. the plane carrying 107 passengers managed to land safely at the airport. the plane is now under inspection. >> a warm springlike day. 74 degrees in pleasanton, napa but some changes for this afternoon. we did see some high clouds over northern california some sprinkles for tonight. notice the green that is the light rain that is falling. most of this is the drawing that is what stormtr

who shot and killed a san francisco man early this morning. kron 4's scott rates walks us through what happened. >> it was around 3:00 a.m. on this intersection of ninth anticly when they heard shots fired. they thought that a man had been shot multiple times. on this intersection, before he collapsed. they believe that as he was driving in his car there was a collision. we don't know that it was a 37 year-old -- we do know that it was a thirtysomething year-old. they are hoping that some type of witness will come forward to help solve this case. they are offering a $10,000 reward scott rates, kron 4 news. >> voters in san jose say "show me the money." tomorrow, the city's minimum wage will go up two dollars. to 10-dollars an hour. that goes for both part-time and full-time employees. it also includes those working on tips. kron four's philippe djegal works out the numbers for the average worker. >> so, this is how it works. and, we'll use part-time workers as an example. someone now making eight dollars an hour, six hours a day, thirty hours a week, is making about 12,470- dollars in

rid popular san francisco street.and put in a bike lane. kron4's scott rates has the story. >> reporter: parking meters along this stretch of polk street could soon be.disappearing making way for a new bike lane dan kowalski is talking about the cities plan that would ultimately take away about 200 parking spaces on a stretch of polk street dan owns flipp furniture store he says he relies on customers being able to park their cars close to his shop. the cities plan would move those parking spots on to smaller side streets, it would also add a new bike lane down the 1.3 mile stretch of polk street last night over 300 residents and business owners packed a near by church to discuss the issue most against the plan. the city's plan would move those two smaller side streets and also have more bike lanes. over 300 residences and business packed this church. most are against the plan. there is any way to replace consumers and cars with bikes. >> reporter: today kron 4 reached out the bike coalition however so far has not received a response back city officials say the changes are

was riding between san francisco and san bruno wednesday night the woman is offering a the owners of chez panisse restaurant in berkeley say they're confident that they can reopen the first week of june. a fire on march 8th did a lot of damage. construction crews working on the rebuilding. .we spoke with john lewis and stuart gaffney, a couple from san francisco that married back in 2008 while it was briefly legal in california. they traveled to washington, d-c for the hearings. they have been outspoken advocates of marriage equality for years. and while they hope the supreme court will legalize same-sex marriage across the country, they say even a narrow ruling that allows marriages to take place here in california will be a huge victory. >> this case is ultimately about love, commitment which would be our freedom to marrying. >> what we believe strongly if this was a narrow ruling in our jurisdiction. then only if the historic marriage equality for california that would be a huge victory for california to attend a state in the union for the freedom to marry. the most populous state and our nation. one thought would be a tipping point. even a california specific ruling would be enormous. >> pam: kron will air the full audio recording from today's u.s. supreme court hearing on kron 4's 24-7 bay area news channel. it will be on a continuous loop through 4-am. you can a

by school district. san francisco unified could cut 185 jobs. that's 142 certified staff positions -- and 43 teacher aides. oakland unified could cut 65 administrators. and 11 non-tenured teachers. alum rock is giving out 87 preliminary notices -- 78 to teachers. antioch may cut 13 teachers. redwood city. 8 certified positions may be eliminated - including school nurses and counselors. and for fremont, san jose unified, walnut creek and palo alto unified -- those districts say *no pink slips have been sent out. some of the teachers receiving these notices are all too familiar with them. in fact, some have been receiving them for years. the next big deadline is may 15th. that's when school administrators will send out finalized pink slips. new tonight at 8-- an emotional vigil tonight for three victims of a deadly drunk driving crash in daly city. kron 4's alecia reid has reaction from grieved family members. new developments tonight -- the pain is too fresh this was at the location of the accident and people were extremely upset. >> i could not be comforted by should it be the one that died

street in san francisco bicyclist get full use of the roadway and apparently everything else there has been talk about limiting private vehicle access on polk street as part of the city's transit first policy however maybe we should include bicycle training first, like telling bicylist to read signs like this one that reads skateboard and bicycle riding prohibited on sidewalk a sign ignored by many riders but what really amazed me was the sheer amount of riders that run the red lights on polk like this riders and this rider also watch this rider, he has the red light so he rides his bike in the crosswalk another no no then still runs the light in the crosswalk followed by riding against traffic and finally riding on the sidewalk it wasn't hard to find people riding their bikes in the crosswalk where they should dismount and walk now i personally would never think about running the red light on any street but on busy california yup it happened it was this guy he is half way into the intersection and waits and while the light is still red there he goes it is interesting bike behaviour o

after a disturbing discovery at a san francisco bart station. a homeless man was crushed to death. as he was apparently sleeping on top of an elevator. it happened around 9-30 last night at the montgomery street bart station a man *in the elevator says he heard a scream. it's not clear how the homeless man got into the dangerous spot. tonight-- kron 4 is learning the victim's identity. but the coroner's office won't publicly name him - until his family has been notified. >> charles clifford bricks, numbers. >> in a report from 2011 to 2012 there was an overall increase in crime across the city. in 2012 they dealt with violent crimes and property crimes including 63 aggravated assaults. that is a 2.7% increase from 2011 to they also saw an increase on identity theft and fraud. however there has been a decrease and public intoxication and d.u.i. the attributes the increase to enforcement with nine the arrests by one officer. this city has seen an increase in crime over a five-year period crime has been down in nearly all categories. the concern icould be a trend ts more problems. in the ne

pretty much everyone is having a good time. >> the san francisco symphony says that the musician's strike is forcing the cancellation of the upcoming east coast tour. more than 100 musicians started striking on wednesday when their union and the symphony failed to reach an agreement on a new contract. the musicians rejected a proposal to resume playing concerts during a cooling off period. the last time the musicians went on strike was from 1996 to 1997. that strike led to the cancellation of 43 concerts.
